Eustress and Resilience: Cultural Strategies for Regulating Stress and Building Strength
This training explores how culturally responsive strategies can transform stress into resilience. Participants will learn to differentiate eustress from distress and apply practical, culturally grounded tools to regulate stress, prevent burnout, and build strength within themselves and their communities across HawaiĘ»i’s diverse cultural and social landscapes.
As a result of this presentation, participants will be able to…
- Explain the difference between eustress and distress
- Explain how eustress can enhance resilience, performance, and emotional well-being in professional and community settings.
- Identify at least two (2) culturally grounded strategies for stress regulation that reflect local values, such as collective care, body-mind-spirit balance, and meaning-making practices found across Hawai‘i’s diverse cultures.
- Apply at least two (2) practical tools or techniques (e.g., gradual exposure, cultural rituals, expressive activities) to reframe stress and build resilience in their own lives or in their work with others.
